King cake is a traditional way to celebrate Mardi Gras. And this easy king cake recipe is simple enough for anyone to make. For this king cake recipe, you will need: 2 cans of refrigerated biscuit dough (8-10 biscuits each) 1/4 cup butter, melted 1/2 cup sugar 2 tsp. cinnamon 1-1/2 cups powdered sugar 2-4 Tbsp. milk green, gold and purple colored sugar Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Open the refrigerated biscuit dough and separate into biscuits. Line them up to make a large rectangle – 4 biscuits across and 5 down is about right. Now take a piece of plastic wrap and place it over the biscuits. This just makes them easier to roll without sticking. Roll the biscuits together to form a single sheet of dough. Remove the plastic wrap. Now mix the cinnamon and sugar together. Brush the melted butter on the dough, leaving about 1/4 inch border all the way around. Sprinkle on the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Now starting from the long end, roll the dough up, jellyroll fashion. Place the dough in a circle on an ungreased baking sheet. And pinch the edges to seal it. Now it’s traditional to put a plastic baby in the king cake, and whoever gets that piece has to make the cake the next year. But I don’t like the idea of baking with plastic, so I just add the baby at the end. Now bake the king cake in the preheated oven for 18-25 minutes, until golden brown. Meanwhile, make the glaze: Start by adding a few tablespoons of the milk to the powdered sugar. Mix it together, and keep adding …

Karen coordinates IRS outreach and education to the tax practitioner community and small business owners. She partners with SCORE, Small Business Development Centers, and other organizations that help small business owners.

Karen is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in Secondary Education. She has always enjoyed teaching and has done so in every IRS position she has held. She answered tax law questions in Duluth MN and later in Minneapolis. For many years, she worked as an IRS tax collector. She approached the job as an educator, working with taxpayers to teach them how to resolve their tax issues. In July 2009, she joined the Stakeholder Liaison division. She has found her niche and gets to explore her passion for teaching!
